Contemporary approach in restoring endodontically treated teeth
Contemporary approach in restoring endodontically treated teeth
Prof. Dr. J. Sabbagh
20.02.2025
After the root canal treatment of a tooth is conducted, dentists still face in their daily practice a very common problem, the decision making in restoring endodontically treated teeth (ETT). Different clinical options can be carried on, from simple composite restoration to an Inlay-Onlay, Overlay or a full crown. On the other hand, is the use of fiber posts still recommended or a metal post and core is more indicated and in which situation? Recently the concept of endocrown has been introduced to dentistry representing an alternative to full crown along with CAD/CAM technology.
The restoration of endo treated teeth has different objectives such as mechanical, esthetic, functional, and biological. The choice of the restoration and the material are made according to different criteria.
Through several clinical cases using the most recent materials and literature review, this presentation will answer all the questions related to the restoration of ETT and a step by step clinical procedure will be defined in order to achieve successful long term restorations.
Workshop
Guided by Prof. Joseph Sabbagh, attendees will have the opportunity to capitalize on the knowledge acquired through clinical simulations.
Every participant will prepare an Inlay, and an Endocrown on a plastic molar. Then they will perform a composite Onlay and lute it on the prepared tooth using resin based cements.
Learning objetives
By the end of this practical day, participants will be able to:
- Achieve adequate Inlay Onlay and endocrown preparation
- Achieve a composite overlay
- Master the different luting steps of indirect posterior restorations
- Polish and finish properly the restoration using the most adequate tools
